Credit Card FAQs

We've answered some of the most Frequently Asked Questions about Credit Card Experience Enhancements.  Click on the question below to read the answer.

Contactless Tap to Pay

A contactless or “tap to pay” card allows for transaction completion by placing the card on the terminal (payment machine) at the merchant. Your card is still chip and magstripe enabled, to allow you to insert or swipe your card, if the merchant doesn’t not yet offer tap to pay.

Tap to pay is secure because each transaction is accompanied by a one-time code, just like contact EMV, but with a faster response time for convenience. Unlike cash, tap to pay is touch free and provides an electronic record of your purchases.

For debit, you will receive a contactless card when your card is reissued for any reason. If you would like to request a debit card before your reissue, you may step inside a TCU branch or call us at 707-449-4000.

For credit, if you don’t have a contactless card, you are currently in a grandfathered product. If you would like to receive a contactless card, along with other benefits of our current offerings, please call us at 707-449-4000.

Contactless payments ensure that your card information does not come in contact with the merchant terminal using near field communication. A onetime code is or token is generated to the terminal to reduce card fraud.

Your chip card produces a new code for every transaction, what that means is no information passed at one point in time, can be used for another transaction. The technology also uses ultra-short range, making it almost impossible for someone to capture your card information by standing near you. You can rest assured that TCU cards offer protection from any unauthorized use with Visa’s Zero Liability Policy. All card holder disclosures still apply.

You'll see the Contactless Indicator Contactless Indicator on your card.

Your card can be used anywhere tap to pay is accepted, domestically and internationally. The Contactless Symbol Contactless Symbol on the terminal indicates where you tap your contactless card or payment-enabled mobile/wearable device on the checkout terminal to make a payment.

3D Secure (3DS) Authentication

3D Secure, also known as 3DS, is a technical standard created by Visa that adds an additional layer of protect to online debit card and credit card transactions to help protect consumers and merchants against fraud. Participation is required by various merchants who prompt for additional verification at checkout.

3DS is automatically enabled for Travis Credit Union debit cards and credit cards. At checkout, merchant website may prompt a 2-step authentication process for online purchases to validate it is the cardholder making the transaction, reducing fraud. TCU cardholders must enter a unique code to complete an online transaction with merchants who use 3DS. Upon receiving the code at your phone number or email on file, never share it with anyone, TCU will never ask for it.

Payment Information

The easiest way to make a payment is through the TCU Online Banking or Mobile Banking App if transferring from a TCU Checking or Savings account. All payments made from your Travis account will have immediate access to your funds on your TCU credit card. Your payments will not reflect on your credit card for 24 to 48 hours, but you will see an increase in your available credit for the amount of the transaction.

If you would like to make a payment from another institution, please visit the Make A Payment option in MyCardInfo. By entering your checking or savings account information from another institution, you can have a payment posted to your account within a few business days.

Also, you can make a payment by stopping in at your local Travis Credit Union branch or by mailing payment to the address provided on the Make a Payment page. If you have any questions, please contact our Member Service Center by using the information on the Contact Us page of the Help and Information menu.

Your full account number can be located on the bottom of your credit card statement. It is the first 16 digits listed.
