Vacaville, CA – Travis Credit Union today announced that it has launched and implemented its $1 million philanthropic initiative, which was disbursed to local organizations working to provide COVID-19 related relief to non-profits primarily focused on services in the areas of education, youth/family, food banks and small business support. These nearly 100 non-profits in the counties of Solano, Napa, Contra Costa, Merced, and Yolo were notified via personal phone calls, including several from Barry Nelson, president and CEO of TCU.
In determining the donation amount allocated for each agency, TCU considered the organization’s total size, scope of service, statement of immediate needs, as well as all facets of support being offered to local individuals and families impacted by COVID-19.
The $1 million in donations represents TCU’s commitment to serve as a financial institution that truly cares about the community’s financial needs and well-being. In addition, TCU intends to match up to $4,000,000 given to the TCU Foundation from other organizations, corporations and individuals.
The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Center of Suisun City and Solano County was one of the local nonprofits who received notification of the donation on Friday afternoon. Administrator Major Randy Hartt accepted the donation on Friday afternoon via a Zoom conference call.
“I just wanted to say thank you for this generous donation,” said Hartt to the credit union on the call. “You are helping us support essential personnel, including first responders, hospital personnel, and county and city employees throughout Solano County, who must work during these times.” During the COVID-19 crisis, the Kroc Center has ceased regular operations and pivoted to emergency childcare for essential works and emergency food distribution to families in Fairfield and Vallejo.
“We’re hoping this philanthropic initiative encourages other organizations, corporations and individuals to join the TCU Foundation as new community partners, enabling us to do even more to help organizations that are so essential to lessening the impact of the pandemic,” said Nelson. “We ask that you please visit tcufund.org today to become a partner of the foundation, make a much-needed donation, and help raise hope in our communities.”
