Travis Credit Union Sponsors Youth Business Plan Competition

May 27, 2022

Vacaville, CA– Travis Credit Union (TCU) recently sponsored Napa Valley College's 16th Annual Youth Business Plan Competition, allowing over 150 students to get insight into what it takes to build a successful business model. The annual competition provides an opportunity for high school and college-age students to research and write a business plan and enter the Business Plan Competition. The competition paid tribute to Charlie Monahan, who worked with Napa Valley College for more than 20 years and served as the associate dean, career pathways & economic and workforce development.

“Youth have the opportunity to develop business ideas with the support of community mentorship, small business advisors, business professors, and local high school instructors,” said Claudette Shatto, Napa Valley College professor, and Business & Entrepreneurship program coordinator. “This is a great chance for youth to gain valuable skills — and maybe even a plan a future business."

Travis Credit Union is proud of all of the exceptional students who participated in the competition and challenged themselves by developing well-thought-out business plans. We applaud all the American Canyon High School winners:

  • Victoria Cannaday and Rafael Ely took first prize with their business idea Tilted Time Photography.
  • Christopher Hampton placed second with Chef Froggy-Personal Chef.
  • Alexia, Trinity, Katie, and Roslin, took third place with Sweet Treats with Handmade Desserts.
  • Mateo Devera, Merryck Fababier, Rudy Noble, Roche Suspene, and Chad Ho‑Malasan tied for third place with their proposal L'epargne Clothing, which offers a clothing subscription service.

“We place great emphasis on educating young adults about the significance of money management and helping them develop as financially responsible adults. The Napa Valley College Youth Business Plan Competition provides an excellent opportunity for students to design challenging scenarios and get a glimpse of the future they can create for themselves,” said Kevin Miller, President and CEO of Travis Credit Union.
