Have you thought about the easiest way to save? The easiest way to save is not to think about it at all, by setting up regular automatic savings account deposits. It doesn’t matter how big your goal or what you’re saving for; when you make the smart decision to have a portion of your income automatically deposited into a savings account, you have increased your chance for success.
The past year has taught us that we must be as prepared as possible for the unexpected. Automatic savings allows us to consistently set aside money for unexpected events such as a car repair, dental bill, or even a last-minute flight home. However, we can also be saving for unexpected, positive events like a new addition to the family, a new puppy, travel opportunities and a comfortable retirement.
Take The Pledge
During the month of April, we’re focusing on motivating service members, military families, and veterans to prioritize building an emergency savings fund. We recommend the following tools to support you during America Saves Month:
- Encouraging your community towards financial action by taking the Military Saves Pledge or re‑pledging. You can also text “TCUSAVES” to 877877 to make the Military Saves Pledge.
- Share the Military Saves Spending and Savings tool, which can help those in your military community get a clear view of their finances in order to realistically budget for their emergency savings fund.
- Share the news with your community that they can connect with a free financial coach or counselor through Military Saves’ partnership with the Yellow Ribbon Network and AFCPE®.
- Of course, financial education can empower every member of the military community, from service members and veterans to their military spouses. Military families can plan and develop their savings strategy together, and that includes teaching good money and savings habits to kids from a young age. A great place to start is by viewing our webinar on Raising a Money-Smart Kid.
Financial Education At Your Fingertips
We encourage you to focus on the tangible and intangible ways we can set ourselves up for success as military families, and positively influence and model for our children and teens when it comes to money, spending habits, and saving. Be sure to register for our upcoming webinars on saving, here.
